Many people are anticipating my take on the Basket-Brawl in Detroit and possibly the bigger story: unprecedented suspensions.
First off, I’m more than satisfied with President, I mean NBA Commissioner David Stern’s harsh penalties regarding Friday night’s human disaster in Detroit.
The incident was shocking, so was the punishment. Let’s just say, today I was very happy, much like early November if you catch my drift.
Ron Artest went nuts because he got hit with a cup and water? I guess he feared for his life, self defense kicks in when H2o and plastic are involved. Why was he lying down on the scorer’s table in the first place? Ridiculous. Oh, you thought it was all cute and funny when he asked for two months off to promote his album?
This is why you sweat the small stuff and do something about it. If not, it festers and boils over into an all-out riot.
(Fester and boil, too graphic?)
Yes, I’m big on slight fear and serious consequences, sorry. Call me whatever you want, but what happened on that floor and in the stands with the fans was an indirect result of few rules and little enforcement – as Americans, we coddle too much.
Hopefully this will change soon thanks to Commissioner Stern and other like minds. Well, change everywhere except for my own home which I rent from a lady who goes by the name of “mother”.
In closing, apparently for today’s professional sports, it’s all about dunks, hits and celebrations, that’s entertainment, that’s exciting.
Whatever happened to winning? I thought winning was exciting? Guess not.
p.s. – This now infamous event is far too complex for one singular blog entry (I’m also tired). Fans and lack of security share in the fault as well, just wanna make this clear.
