Pardon my full court jpeg blitz, have a couple free days, just wanted to share and create. Don’t worry, I’m also doing plenty of stand-up, appearing at The Hollywood Comedy Store (jokes and drums), Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre on both coasts (Human Giant related and Super Deluxe types), Comedy.com (love the url) and Fox Sports.Tonight I’ll be at Big Fish in Glendale off San Fernando Road around 9pm (Dougg and Denver are funny). Possibly Comedy Death Ray at UCB with or w/o Flight of the Conchords by 10pm (friends of the hilarious FotC). Then it’s Stump Stevens on the Playboy Morning Radio Show, Sirius 198 at 9am Wednesday on the west coast.
And this after a noon of hanging with baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson and newest Playboy model, Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard.
Don’t think I’m bragging or focusing on the wrong thing. People like my energy and funny faces, why not mention a celebrity or three for google points?
Can slide-shows go viral? - That’s my goal.

Saw the Police and Foo Fighters last night at Dodger Stadium. Great show. The FF did what they do, with Dave Grohl Almighty at his best not to overshadow Sting and the boys.
At the twi-light time of their opening set, it was a three-quarters full major league baseball stadium (capacity: 55,500) and I was on the field (actually in the dugout looking for sunflower seeds) but I think the fans wanted a little more, I mean hey, we’re part of the show too!
This was a cool moment for the Southern California rock scene and it needed to be acknowledged. Who better than David Grohl and the Foo Fighters?

The energy, commitment and songs where there, but this jaded Hollywood crowd was looking for something else. It felt like the early 80’s. Why not reference the US Festivals or an MTV VJ?
My advice to Dave on this special night… less screaming, a little more funny, maybe a Dodger joke or two? How about a score from Tampa Bay where the Men in Blue were playing on the road?
That’s what I want from my bands, less music, more humor and sports news!
Have I heard of Metal Skool? No, haven’t.
All things considered, The Foo Fighters were great, I’d just rather see them close a show or play sponsor driven radio events where they can blow other acts out of the water.
Also, not many photos, took the night off, could have snapped some beauties. Said no cameras on the ticket, I follow rules.
The Police were wonderful, fantastic, dare I say amazing? Sting doesn’t age, Stewart Copland on drums is unbelievable and Andy Summers outta be mentioned in the same breath as Eddie Van Halen - (how is Eddie’s breath these days?).
See them live if you can, worth it. The sound was tight and tantric. The house Koufax, Garvey and Fernando built ate it up! All five decks and the luxury suites singing Roxanne and Message in a Bottle.
Group bonding in it’s most primitive form.
Crowd was mixed, skewed older, several couples, pot smoke was evident. I was by myself.
Took forever to get out of the parking lot. Saw my friend Mr. Baseball, he was working concessions on the third base side, literally ON the on-deck circle. Bought nachos from him, he charged me full price - (i CHARGED the mound!). My other buddy, Dodger Dave, he’ll usually hook me up with a frozen lemonade or pizza, on the house!
So let’s re-cap a bit… the Foo Fighters (who were born in Seattle during my tenure up there) played at Dodger Stadium. I was on the field last night staring at the tarp covered pitcher’s mound, literally 30 feet away from the rubber, looking up into the stands, packed house listening to the Foo Fighters live and in-person.

Stay with me… I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, I played high school baseball for Reseda. In 1986 we faced heavily favored Grant HS in the LA City Playoffs, we lost 2-1 in the opening round. I pitched pretty good. Proud, but a loser nonetheless.
Grant went on to win the LA City title that year, clinching the final game at Dodger Stadium with a senior named Rodney Beck on the mound.
Rod Beck, as most would know him, went on to become a successful major league baseball player, pitching for four different teams (Giants, Cubs, Red Sox, Padres) saving 286 games. He was an All-Star three times - (I was on Premium Blend in 2001).
I always followed him and his career, thinking it could have been me. Not ashamed to say I lived vicariously though him.
Never spoke to him after that game in 86, wanted to. Friends still mention the Beck vs. Brody match-up to me. I remember it vividly as our paths crossed on that hazy May afternoon.
This morning I find out Rod Beck died.
38, found dead in Phoenix. He had some problems, drugs have been an issue in the past.
Just kinda weird, spent much of my time last night on that field, focusing energy on the very same spot Beck made city history on and up into the stands connecting with a moment (hello, Dodger Dave where are you?). Who knows, maybe Rodney Beck was sending me a message?

When I figure it out I’ll let you know. Does it involve baseball? Music? Comedy? Maybe I’ll run into a former Nirvana roadie working at a batting cage?
Boom, there it is! Grohl had Cobain.
Rod Beck is my Kurt Cobain, and the Foo Fighters took it easy last night in deference to Rod, not The Police. All this time, Grohl was down due to a premonition. Now I see where he’s coming from.
He braced me for today’s news, thank you David.
The connections are eerie and don’t you dare call me delusional! This is how I grieve.
